DO We All Look the Same?

So often Asian people are convinced that they can “tell” who their fellow Korean- or Japanese- or Chinese-Americans are. Or that they can identify members of other Asian-American groups. But can we really?

When I pass other Asian-Americans on the street, I feel myself doing the Guessing Game, and I often assume I am right in my guesses. But I am chagrined to say that I have taken the face test TWICE over at AllLookSame, and both times I have failed miserably. (7 out of 18 correct is my average)

I was told I was ok at 9 ... which means if I make a guess it's 50/50 chance I may be correct hahaha

Damn, I definitely can't tell them apart. I got 3 out of 18!

I'd prefer to take a "can you tell these white people apart" test. Because I'd be abysmal at that one too.

I know. This test is a killer.

in my group of friends, we've figured out that non-asians do a lot better on that test than the asians.

maybe because we (asians) think we know and come into it with a lot of preconceived ideas about what other asian groups should look like. i know i have a lot of stuff in my head from my mother -- "koreans have bigger faces", "japanese women are skinnier", etc etc.

Dang. I only got 8 out of 18. "Needs a lot more work" the site tells me. I coulda SWORN that one girl looked Japanese!
