San Jose native’s Joey Chestnut defeated six-time winner Takeru Kobayashi in Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest this past Wednesday, as detailed in “American is hot dog eating champion.” Chestnut even beat his recently set world record, devouring 66 hot dogs in 12 minutes. Long live Takeru Kobayashi!

The victory is made all the sweeter to my friend (an American) doing research in Japan who recently had his ear talked off by a local who insisted Kobayashi would win because he has that "Japanese discipline and training." Uh huh.
