Yup, what’s what I said. Hip hop violin. Check it out:
Played masterfully by the LA-based duo Paul Dateh (on violin) and inka one (on turntables). Holy crap these guys are good. They deserve all the press & attention they can get.
I once had to learn the violin in grade school. And hey, Genghis is a DJ. Dude, know what I’m thinking? We could totally do a hip hop violin video too!
(No, really, we couldn’t. Because Dateh actually knows how to play his violin well. Me, I can maybe make some dogs howl.) (Genghis though, is an awesome DJ.)
(hat tip to Ernie)

Awesome stuff. I'm fascinated by musical talent whether it be singing, an instrument, dancing, whatever. This is incredible. Do they have an album? I'd buy this and listen to the rest of their stuff regularly if it's anything like this.
JMattHicks Actually, yes. Yes he does: http://pauldateh.com/music/
Ernie H. Ernie swoops in for the save. Nice thanks a lot my man,
Oh wow, I didn't know about Miri Ben-Ari. Cool!
And maybe these two are going to start a new trend. Since they can't call it Hip Hop Violinist-ism, maybe it can be called Violin Hip Hop.
As in, "Hey, where can I find Dateh's new CD?"
"Over in the Violin Hip Hop section," says the music store clerk.
Speaking of Miri Ben-Ari, who is THE Hip Hop Violinist, her management sent a cease & desist to Paul recently over that descriptor.
Hey! I play(ed) the violin! Remember those bratty completely snotty little twerps from school who were uber-competitive and went home to practice their violin for three hours every night and who would seriously contemplate suicide every time they didn't make concertmaster/mistress?... Yeah. I'd be one of those little twerps...
You should check out Miri Ben-Ari if you haven't heard of her already. She's probably the most famous example of a violinist playing hip-hop. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tlGwKi3ISk
