  1. Happy Canadian Thanksgiving!

  2. Send me that mandarin derivative of “I Can’t Help Falling in Love”!!!!

  3. You know that “88″ is a well-known Neo-Nazi code for “Heil Hitler”? (I am not making this up.) If you check out all the white power hate bands, many of them have “88″ in their name.

I hate it when assholes misappropriate numbers and symbols, and then we can’t use it anymore without looking like assholes.

  5. Sorry, one more link.

  6. Furthermore, Chinese speakers also use 88 as a shorthand for “good bye” in SMS and IM chats, the mandarin pronunciation of 88 is “baba” which sounds like “bye bye”.
    — from the wikipedia page Bertie linked

Haha. Is that for real? I had no idea! That’s so cute!! I’m going to do that from now on.

    88!!

  7. ^^ That is for real … and that’s why I actually sign off with ‘Bye Bye.’

And yes, I did know about its Neo-Nazi appropriation … though I figured, people would get the difference in context since its significance is pretty blatant. I doubt Neo-Nazi’s troll sites like this.

  8. Yeah, totally. Context. But part of me is worried that, because of the implications, even if the use is in the right context, people not familiar with “88″ as meaning something good in Chinese culture will start a ruckus. I wonder if anyone of Chinese descent contacted Target educating them that “88″ means good fortune in Chinese culture. I felt a bit sad when they pulled the shirts, honestly.

[This is like trademark tarnishment. Totally irritating!!! Why can't the dumbass skinheads pick another number to tarnish?!]

Sorry for the tangent! Back to the music…

  9. it’s ok Bertie … I’m not worried … and if it starts a ruckus … what better way to educate people in a lesson in the diversity of intent.
