However, it would not be in america's best interest to make america a monolingual society. All immigrants that move here eventually lose their native tongue, but being a polyglot has so much potential. It's good for the brain, it makes life easier if you were to go into business or politics, and I've always believed knowing more is better than less. My grandmother always said there was no such thing as wasted learning. Many countries in the world have more than one official language and europeans often fluently speak 3-4 or more languages. We should foster foreign language competence in Americans and accomodate immigrants who have not mastered english, however english should be the common language in practice. There would still be an influx of immigrants, people will still be learning foreign languages in school.
