Sam Yoon: Boston Politician Embroiled in Clinton-Obama Race

I came across this article on Sam Yoon, Boston’s first ever Asian-American to hold elected office in the city of Boston (elected in 2005). Yoon currently sits on the Democratic National Committee’s Rules Committee.

“A seat like this is usually a mostly symbolic pat on the back for an up-and-coming politician. But with the primary as close as it is, and with the Democratic delegates of Michigan and Florida a huge question mark, a decision by the Rules Committee could decide the outcome.”

As you are probably aware, the Democratic Presidential nomination has been quite competitive between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Yoon could very well help decide how the Michigan and Florida delegates are seated, or whether or not there is a “do over” election in those states. I had the great pleasure of meeting Yoon and his wife two years ago at the first Asian American and Pacific Islander Democratic Leadership summit in San Jose. From my brief interaction with Yoon, I was pretty impressed with his interest and dedication to public service. (In the above photo, Sam Yoon is shaking the hand of the mayor of Boston - who is an Obama supporter - whom Obama was accused of plagiarizing recently.)

   That’s Governor Deval Patrick to you. Deval Patrick is currently the only African American governor in the United States until David Paterson take the oath of office on March 17, 2008. And yes, he happens to be good friends with Barack Obama, but he is not the mayor of Boston. That would be Thomas Menino, Jr.
