Even the most rudimentary attempt to find out what a chook is will reveal that the term chook is coloquial Australian and New Zealand for a chicken. Its etymology and early variants go all the way back to 16th century England and to Shakespeare. I'm looking at the one foot in the air on the poster, and it looks like animated poultry to me.

Using "chook" may be a deliberate attempt to find a near homophone for chink and gook, maybe not. However, right now, chook is not perjorative except maybe to poultry and the poultry aren't complaining yet. However give it time and I'm sure PETA will find a way to speak on behalf of the offended poultry. However, if I were poultry, I'd be more concerned about my future in the pot pie industry than what today's Australians, today's New Zealanders or 16h century Shakespeare called me or having an animated stereotyped image of poultry in a cartoon show.

The term chopsocky, depending on context, could be considered a perjorative reference to one of the most prolific and financially successful cinema industries in the world. Some of the greatest action and dramatic movies ever made came from Hong Kong studios and still come from them and ones in mainland China. Where is the outrage over "chopsocky"???

Cartoons are parodys of everything including appearance, culture and stereotypes. If these things didn't exist, the basis for a huge amount of humor wouldn't either. What would truly be offensive to me would be putting forward someting supposed to represent Oriental culture without having it look, behave or have something resembling mainstream Oriental culture. Hmmm, sounds like a stereotype to me. Well, I guess it depends on whether the stereotype has basis in fact and whether it promotes something perjorative. As a fan of Asian cinema, I can attest to the fact that Hong Kong movies from the 1960s and 1970s (e.g. Shaw Brothers) were highly formulaic and any parody of them will likely leverage some valid stereotype of that genre. The same holds true for blaxploitation movies of the same period.

The world has people looking for some way to be offended by nearly anything and will create offensiveness out of nothing. How about throwing rocks at something that really matters such as the cultures trying to destroy all other cultures but their own???

Stumbled upon this show while scanning through the list of channels on my DirectTV guide one night. I and my wife were like "Oh, my god!" It was a totally stereotype setup. The use of Australian slang did not help me as an American feel like the show was any less revolting to those who might stumble across it. I will be glad when it is gone. This is as bad as the sad racist stereotype of Asians during the WWII era when cartoons from Hollywood would show any from Asia in a very unflattering manner.

Some people seem to think that toys are just toys, or a movie is just a movie. Toys, movies, cartoon, etc. are representations. These representations give meaning to many things. Have you ever seen "Mickey Mouse Monopoly"? It's a documentary about how Disney movies convey hidden messages of race, gender, and class to children.

OMG... Anna are you serious? I think there are more important things in the world to Crusade against. What about the Houseing or Fuel Crisis. Why don't you explain to your kid how the rest of the country is going down the crapper. So how much does KungFu Panda piss you off? Did you have a heart attack on spot?
