More good music: Renee Sebastian

By Ernie | Friday, April 4, 2008 | 5 Comments

Meet Renee Sebastian – a Filipino-American wife and mother who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. She majored in Computer Science in college. Just your typical Asian American living in the Bay, right?

Wrong.

Because Renee Sebastian is also an indie soul singer, songwriter and producer. And a really good one at that, performing in venues in New York, San Francisco, and a recent showcase at SXSW, the big independent music festival in Austin, Texas. (Check out her video to “These Are The Signs,” above this blog post. The first line of her song kinda comes out of nowhere and hits you in the face, in a good way.)

Maybe it’s a sign of getting older, but as my tastes as evolved from the typical urban radio stuff to music that’s more soulful and complex, I find myself really getting into this song; therefore, you should too. Her album is on iTunes. Go listen already.

Hello Ernie. First of all I want to thank you for including me in your blog and for helping me spread the word about my music. Thank you for supporting the spirit of Asian American Independent Music.

Anyway, I am writing to you because I need help from the Asian American community. At the moment, I have something really pressing that I'm working on. I figured, always, the first place to start is with family, friends, and those that may have a vested interest in seeing Asian Americans succeed. I hope you can find some time to help me out in this endeavor.

Long story short, I've been invited to perform at the legendary Jazz Cafe in London as a support act for Nate James (#1 UK Indie Soul Artist today). This is a huge milestone for any artist let alone an independent one. Only well known artists and legends have performed there and now they are giving me that opportunity. I really want to bring my best show and so I have decided to raise a campaign to bring my band with me. Therefore, I am soliciting $25 donation to help fund this trip and if you do so, I would send you a copy of my music and video. I hope you can help by donating and also by forwarding the link below to those whom you think might be able to help or perhaps may be interested in seeing an Asian American make it in the world market as a contemporary R&B singer.

I really have been getting a lot of support from industry critics including Billboard Magazine, Rolling Out Magazine, SF Weekly, LA Independent, New Music, Soul tracks, etc. and of course 8asians.com

Here is a more detailed description of what I have done to support other artists and the reason why I need your support today.. The DONATE link is also found on the page below. Many thanks.

I would love to hear back from you.

Speak to you soon,
