[...] I’ve always been fascinated by North Korea, and it’s easy to make fun of Kim Jung Il, but its incidents like this that continue to reinforce in my mind that North Korea is one of the most dangerous and unpredictable governments and regimes in the world. North Korea has always been, in my mind, a more dangerous threat to stability than Iraq and Iran and have demonstrated that since the detonation of a nuclear weapon back in 2006. Since the United States doesn’t have direct diplomatic relationship with North Korea, the U.S. is going through Sweden, which does have an embassy in Pyongyang, to resolve this issue. I’m not sure what we as Americans can do to help in the release of Lee and Ling, but my prayers are certainly with them and their families and their hopeful safe and quick return.
[...] I’ve always been fascinated by North Korea and Kim Jong Il, so when I came across a recent Angry Asian Man posting of an eHarmony spoof with the famous North Korean dictator, I just had to blog about it. Danny Cho does a terrific job mocking the North Korean dictator - in looks, accent and demeanor. The fact that it also mocks eHarmony’s commercial is just a bonus. Grace Su, who plays the love of Kim Jong Il’s life, does a great job as well. [...]

um, you're not crazy. i tell my European-citizen husband that he's lucky he can go to Cuba and North Korea. he thinks i'm a little nutso, though.
i agree with your film picks; i also highly recommend a graphic novel by Guy Delisle called "Pyongyang: A Journey in North Korea." he's a Canadian animator who had to work there for a few months - -this is essentially his travel diary. funny and insightful.
there's also a great doc by the same guy who did "State of Mind" called "The Game of Their Lives" about the '66 N.K. men's soccer team that got to the World Cup quarterfinals. good luck finding it; i saw in in '02 at a screening the filmmaker did. it's worth hunting down, though.
