I really enjoyed this article (all three parts). It's nice reading about life outside the single, Asian American, "YAPpie", twenty-something perspective.

I'm a few steps removed (because I'm still a single, AsianAm, yappie twenty-something), but sometimes I think about how my parents pushed me into piano, violin, and tennis and how to go about pushing my kids when the time comes. I know I resent my parents a little for never letting me get into organized team sports (Chinese school on Saturdays and fear for my physical safety).

At the same time, all my parents pushing led to me being the wonderful, amazing, well-rounded ball of awesome that I am, so maybe there's something to be said for pushing my kids into violin, tennis, Chinese school, and SAT prep.
