Even people who aren't into classical music have probably heard of (one of these): Sarah Chang Itzhak Perlman Midori Anne-Sophie Mutter Joshua Bell Vanessa Mae Lin Cho-Liang (Taiwanese) Bonus points for those who know who Linda Brava is... and what she's famous for other than being a violinist... I thought of all those off the top of my head... these aren't even necessarily the violinists real violin aficionados would consider the best living violinists of the day... just ones that the average person may have heard of! You don’t know any famous violinists off-hand?
