From her mimicry and her interviews, it seems she was just your typical (mostly white) person obsessed with the Japanese culture.

What does Youtube provide but a way to create a character and personality one could be without repercussions? The attention she received was probably very flattering and she annoyed the paradoxical anonymity and adoration - she seems considerably more a fish out of water in the actual Japan, being called out on the fact that her appearance hasn't been completely honest or that her japanese isn't nearly so complete as her youtubes imply. To be honest, if you took your typical japanophile and put them in actual Japan, you'd probably get her.

But putting that aside, I disagree with the hate she's seems to be receiving ever since the 'real' her came out in the interview. It's a bit understandable, but I think it's less indignation over being 'duped' and more just people crowing over someone pretty and adored being brought 'low'. She's still quite cute even with the longer face, she's just a normal cute girl. I don't think she ever explicitly pretended to be hot stuff, her youtube pics were just her 15 minutes of daydreaming, yea?

...I think I read somewhere that she's supposed to be part of a viral marketing campaign for a Japanese horror movie. A lonelygirl15 of sorts, if you will.

Not gonna lie, her videos are super creepy. It's her eyes O_O
