Firstly, this story makes total sense if you know about all the totally crazy English language t-shirts that have been spotted around Asia over the years.

Secondly, I urge anyone who is getting ANY sort of language-related tattoo (English or Chinese or Sanskrit or whatever) to think clearly and in great depth about the tattoo design. Don't take any single person's word for it. Check and recheck and then check again from a disinterested third party. Then, maybe, get the tattoo done.

On second thought, don't get a tattoo.

I've been reading Tattoo articles and visiting sites/blogs a lot lately and this is very much above the norm with what I've been finding. You obviously did your research. Nice work!

I've never seen this topic discussed, but always wondered why people do that. Even if the spelling is correct, it doesn't make much sense to me. I suppose if I were to get something like that done, I'd at least use a language program on line for verification first. Great article!

Hm, I doubt it is on the same scale as non-Asian people with Asian tattoos. Don't get me wrong theres probably some around but the story has probably been made more than it is due to the irony factor.

Jeff: Well, considering I'm a gay male in the US, I can't give blood or blood products anyway. But that's another blog post.

The scarification I had was a cutting, which actually wasn't TOO bad (as far as other bodmod rituals of the sort go). It was amusing though because this friend of mine who considers himself punk immediately said I was more punk than he was after telling him about it. I guess I am, but I still find it funny b/c I think I'm rather mild-mannered, and identify with that subculture at all. :D
