@BrainySmurf – No. I've met Sam Yoon a few times. His wife even worked with a former teaching assistant of mine. He's smart, passionate, good ideas and I think he will bring a lot of fresh ideas and energy to an office that has been occupied by a mayor who promised only two terms in office, then stayed longer.

Do you think there are voters in Boston who wouldn't vote for Sam Yoon because he is Asian?

He destroyed the lot in his most recent debate, so aside from race, I think he's the most qualified. His platform is education and transparency in politics. I think both of these would help Boston.

That being said, I think it's perfectly acceptable for his Asianness to also be a factor in why we should support Sam Yoon. We need more Asian American role models in important positions, especially as elected politicians, which is why Asian Pacific Americans for Progress and other organizations support him. People like Sam serve as a beacon for other Asian Americans, encourage other Asian Americans to participate in public service, and inspire us. If we don't help Asian American people become leaders, we won't have leaders to lead.

I hope you are not just supporting him because he is asian. I hope that you are supporting him for what he stands for and his agenda…which you find is much better than all the other possible candidates.
