OMG I can't believe how silly this advert is. I hope no one actually buys this quite racist product. I hope this fad soon goes away, skin color preference is a myth as far as I am concerned. I buy skin products because of dry skin I often get (dermajuv are my preferred brand) but I couldn't image buying a product to dry and change my color, the very thought of it is depressing.

This is quite common. there are many commercials for products like this all throughout the middle east and India.There are many Chinese who do not like to be tanned as well. I believe this is a deeply ingrained cultural practice associated with ancient caste systems. Right now, there is a generational paradigm shift underway, and your questioning of the validity of these practices is indicative of that. Cheers!

Skin whitening is the defacto standard in all of Asia, especially Japan and China. Mind you, 'white' in this case is not the same as Caucasian. Supposedly (at least Asians I know who defend the products) Say it gives you a "brighter" appearance.

I don't know about India, but living in Singapore (which have a huge local and non local Indian population) has taught me that Asians in generally also prefer light skin. People have told me very directly (mostly Chinese singaporeans) that they would never date an Indian unless they were the very light skinned ones. When I told them I think dark skinned Indian women are absolutely beautiful, they all look at me as if I am from another planet.

This isn't racism. It's the light skin bias.

That's fascinating Dan, what you wrote about females being attracted to lighter-skinned males because they appear bigger. I have never even thought of that. But yes, it's always good to take these studies/theories w/ a grain of salt.
