When I spent the summer at home and the wife worked, a role reversal described here, I was surprised at how much time and energy it took. Not so easy.

Thanks for the interesting and informative post.

Gender Inequality is one of the main reasons the HIV/AIDS situation spread so quickly in Cambodia too--- the "work" the Cambodian and Vietnamese women found easily during the UN Military Occupation following Vietnamese withdrawal from the country was often that of prostitution. This was in the early 90s, and the UN Soldiers came from regions seriously with high rates of HIV/AIDS. In a lot of cultures, including Cambodian, there are gender double-standards. Khmer women cooked, cleaned, and took care of much of the family life as errant and unfaithful spouses spent what little money they earned in Karaoke bars and nightclubs, thus spreading the disease and wiping out entire families. I took care of some orphans when I was in Cambodia most of whose parents had died from HIV/AIDS and whose remaining family were either also sick or too poor to take care of the children as well.
Yes, women do most of the world's work and yet own a small fraction of its property. Amartya Sen, the Nobel Prize Winning Economist, estimates that there up to 100 Million Women who are missing in the world. This is due to gender-selected abortions and failure to get education and medical care for females. I think it is also due to overwork.
