8Asians’ Joz on the Cover of TIME!

By Moye | Friday, January 22, 2010 | 14 Comments

3529106844 e8ebe6f9a5 8Asians Joz on the Cover of TIME!Okay, so maybe that’s only partially true. Remember Joz’s hilarious discovery that the blink detection feature discriminated against her and her brother’s Asian eyes?

The photo and accompanying story made its way around the Internet, but today, Time featured Joz in their article about racism in face detection technology. I managed to snag an impromptu interview with Joz about her newfound fame and the fate of the camera before she hopped on a plane to meet with President Obama and a representative from Nikon over a beer.

Do you still have this racist camera in possession?
This racist camera is in the possession of my Mom. She is non-blink-detecting her friends as we speak.

Have you ever confronted this camera for its offensive behavior? I heard that it’s really unhealthy to internalize such anger. So you should really say something to it.
Of course I have confronted it! Everytime it does it, we point and scream “RACIST CAMERA!”

How did Time get in contact with you?
He went to my blog and read the “contact me” directions. Sent me a note via FB as requested and was really nice and professional.

Who’s more racist: Nikon or HP?
Well, seeing as Asia accounts for over 60% of the world population w/ the population of Africa trailing behind, I would have to say that Nikon is racist against more people than HP is.

Now that you’ve technically “made it” by appearing in Time, what’s next? Oprah? Guest judge on American Idol?
All of the above. And I plan to be more famous than Lady Gaga. Look out for the Haus of JozJoz(Joz).

Team Leno or Team Conan? (If you say Team Leno, then I’m going to de-friend you.)
Team Coco, for sure. Any friend of Wing Pang is a friend of mine.

Who’s more famous now? You or Wing Pang?
Wing Pang. He cussed on national TV. That’s still on my “to do” list.

Okay, I think the interview is over now. Did I miss anything?
(Seriously, can you put a plug in to voteCPAF.org?)

OH YEAH.

Don’t forget to vote for CPAF in the Chase Community Giving Contest on Facebook! Today’s the last day! And congrats to Joz. We can’t wait to see you on Oprah.

Thanks for rating this! Now tell the world how you feel via Twitter.
(Nah, it's cool; just take me back.)

you guys have no lifeeeeee its tooo funnnyyyyyy … instead of being productive you are sitting there scouring to write about ish like this? everybody has a piece of racism in them..its just shown in different proportions..i can see you put your god first before all right? JERKS! go ahead kick this one out..RACIST!!! you can talk on it but are afraid of freedom of speech for those who read your stuff?

  • producer2020

best interview yet? no bull? its sooo empty and high schoolish…frickin A seriously you guys have a low bar set in life dont you?

  • http://hellomoye.com/ moye

I guess you missed the point.

  • producer2020

nooo i got yourrr point but its hard to side with poeple who dont think things through fully. “this skit is basically “LAUGHING AT” how this all blew up. Well, because of her posting it has writers twisitng and spreading this racist notion like a wildfire..basically it started something that can stir controversy that is not even in existance in the first place. “NOW THAT IS A STORY” write somethiong about the writers who jump to a thing like this and use it for thier ratings and not think of the outcome?? you your sites for good instead of gossip..people forget how powerful words can be sometimes..oh but when someone speaks on opposing side of following what you post it might be wrong right???

When you want to use your fantastic spelling and grammar skills to write up your own guest post for 8Asians or — even start your own blog — by YOUR means of good, go ahead. Until then, I’d suggest you take brush up on some English lessons; it would really make your arguments better. Of which I mean, taken seriously. PS: Nice job on submitting the multiple comments with different e-mails at the same IP address! That was a nice touch, too.

Perhaps we should tag this post under “8Asians joke around and don’t take themselves seriously”.

This was my Friday laugh … I’m still laughing.
