Last Friday night, ABC News’ Nightline profiled Nobu Matsuhisa, better known as just “Nobu,” who prepared some of his signature dishes and spoke a little bit about his background. To be honest, I have never ever eaten at a Nobu restaurant, but I have heard of him and his reputation precedes him in the world of fine dining. Nobu comes from humble beginnings – he tragically saw the death of his father in a traffic accident at a young age and the failure with his first restaurant burning down to the ground. Today, Nobu runs 25 Japanese restaurants that employ more than 3,000 people on five different continents–but none in San Francisco! I wonder why? Well, the next time I am in Los Angeles, New York City, Las Vegas, San Diego, or a number of other cities, I will have to check out one of Nobu’s restaurants. Have any of you eaten at his restaurants? What do you think?

Nobu is the godfather of modern day Japanese fusion. So many standard dishes in Japanese restaurants came from him. Many of my favorite meals have been at Nobu or Matsuhisa joints. Plus, he's an awesome guy.
I've never been to his restaurants, but I'm down to try. As long as he doesn't cover everything in eel sauce.
Aside from dining at various Nobu restaurants (including Malibu, Vegas, and NY), I've also dined at Matsuhisa in Beverly Hills.
Though it's fashionable in some circles to bash Nobu's foods as being "overpriced," I've immensely enjoyed every Nobu meal I've ever had.
The most amazing visit I had was a birthday party at the Vegas Nobu where there was so much food that we sent the sushi back because we couldn't possibly stuff any more in our tummies. The sushi returned to us packaged in giant platters which was beautifully packaged so we could take it back to our hotel rooms. Funny enough, despite being totally full, we all managed to scarf down dessert that night...
Anyway, it's certainly not an "everyday occasion" sort of place, I personally really respect Nobu for what he has done.
