Because of the highly classified nature of their work, the Military Intelligence Service’s (MIS) full contribution to the war effort has sometimes been overshadowed. Hear the important stories from Japanese American MIS veterans who fought in World War II, Korea, and Vietnam.

(This is the first post for channelAPA.com on 8asians. We’re excited about this partnership! For our first post, we’re introducing you to Zero Kazama, the host of MTV Silent Library. He doesn’t get to do much as the host on the show, but when we interviewed him we saw the real Zero Kazama. Watch the interview to learn more about him.)
Something is going wrong with my DVR. It has not been recording episodes of America’s Best Dance Crew, therefore ruining my life.
Luckily, MTV posts the episodes on their site and I finally watched it and was very pleased to see that Hawaiian crew Hype 5-0 pulled the gratuitous “two Asian girls kissing” trick out of their hat during their routine to 3 by Britney Spears.
I don’t know if this was a desperate attempt to stay on the show or if it was an attempt to bribe the judges (mainly Omarion) and the male viewing demographic with erection-worthy Asian fetish action.
My guess it’s a combination of both.
I guess sex sells even though this Britney-themed lip lock would’ve been really sexy if it were 2003. My suggestion to Hype 5-0 is to push the envelope a little bit more. Have two guys make out or maybe perhaps a hip-hop routine that mirrors the storyline of Equus – OR – they can even further exemplify the wonder of Asian culture, they should do a traditional Asian folk dance. Considering most of the members seem Filipino (I believe one of them is my cousin’s husband’s cousin), I would suggest they bust out some Tinikling. That is always a crowd pleaser.
Nonetheless, the parents of those two girls must be very proud.
I always see advertisements about Asian brides whenever I Google anything related to Asians. Every once in a while, when I’m bored, I’ll even check them out.
These websites can be counted on for hours of entertainment. For example, take a look at Xiaoquin from China. She is one of the hottest 45 year olds I’ve ever seen and she doesn’t care how you look! Wow! If I wasn’t already married, I’d send off for her right away. I wonder if they have a layaway policy.
So I’m going to ignore the whole racist, sexist, stereotypical portrayals of Asian women inherent in these kinds of marriage services. I’ll just say that these websites are all of those things and much worse. What fascinates me the most are the clientele: men looking for “international” and “traditional” women “who know how to treat a man.”
My first instinct is to make fun of these guys, like this one who, by the way, lives with his parents or this winner with a tattoo to show he’s hardcore, but also can’t spell. How many misspellings and grammatical errors can you find in his “My Match” section?
im lookin for someone who isnt afraid to say wat she thinks who deosnt care wat other people think and who is willing to compromise in certain cituaitions and who is open minded.
But I did find someone who I thought seemed nice and sweet. This man is relatively cute, he goes to Berkeley, and is pre-med so you know he’s not a complete idiot. But why is he posting his profile on an international marriage site? Doesn’t his mom know a good Chinese woman? Asian brother, contact me. I have friends who would probably go out with you.
Do other Asian American guys look for Asian brides? I didn’t. After a quick check on the other websites, the kid from Berkeley seems like an anomaly. Don’t believe me? Check out the “success” stories of such mail order relationships. I can’t read it (since most of it is not in English), but judging from the pictures, it seems like all the guys are older Caucasian men with younger Asian women. I’m not going to judge these men (they seem creepy to me) but they look exactly how I would imagine how men seeking mail order brides would look.
All these Asian bride websites had me question if there were sites for Asian grooms. The answers is sadly, no. To be honest, part of me is offended but the more I think about it, the more I believe that I might have stumbled upon a great business opportunity. Anyone want to invest?
Korean Film Festival in Los Angeles

I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned how much I love the Olympics. My favorite sport for the Winter Olympics is, without a doubt, Women’s Figure Skating. There’s something about elegance meeting athleticism that really inspires me. Back in the Kristi Yamaguchi days, I would imagine myself as a beautiful figure skater . . . “Imagine” being the operative word here, folks.
I was especially invested in this year’s Women’s Figure Skating because of Kim Yuna and Mao Asada. I remember watching them when they were just starting out, reading articles of their rivalry and how each girl was motivated by the other (by the competition) to get better. In a rather unpatriotic move, I wanted so much for either Kim or Asada to win the 2010 gold. Although I adore Mirai Nagasu, I hoped that Kim and Asada’s years of hard work and determination would pay off with a nice shiny medal.
You can imagine my joy with the result of Women’s Figure Skating, where Yuna and Asada respectively placed gold and silver. Well, I would have loved it more if Nagasu won Bronze, but hey, we can’t have it all! Kim excelled in both her programs to win the gold medal, along with the respect of so many people. My worry that all the pressure on her slight, but strong shoulders would be too much for her was all for naught. Even though Asada expressed regret at the free skate program, I’m also proud of her all the same.
I can’t end this post without giving a special shout out to Nagasu who had a great showing at her first Olympics. She was 6th going into the Free Skate and after a beautiful program, she bested Miki Ando and Rachael Flatt to finish 4th. She captured the attention of the global community as a hopeful medalist for the 2014 Winter Olympics.
I think it’s appropriate for me to wrap this up with a quote from one of my friends who surprisingly enjoyed Women’s Figure Skating. “What’s with these Asian girls who dominate in figure skating?”
