Video Blog: Where You From?

By Brian | Monday, June 14, 2010 | 5 Comments

[EDITORS NOTE: As we here at 8Asians are always down to try new things, we're experimenting with a regular video column. Today, our very own "velvety voiced" contributor Brian answers on video the question other bloggers on this site have been asked before: Where are you from?]

Thanks for rating this! Now tell the world how you feel - Share this on Twitter and on Facebook.
(Nah, it's cool; just take me back.)

You had me until “Go Celtics.” ;) And I thought people from NY hated Boston sports teams.

    Go celtics indeed.

Go Celtics?! And you’re from NY? What the hell! :P

I think asking people to clarify what they meant would make them think about what they were implying with their question. And honestly, I don’t think it’s a “PC-or-not?” thing. Honestly I think it’s more of an attempt made by people to be MORE PC because they don’t want to straight-up ask what one’s ethnicity is. I agree with you in that it’s better to cut the crap and ask instead of waffling around.

Exactly Brian! It ain’t anything unless you wanna make it something and usually its not worth the time. Now my real question is, how long did it take for you decide, “I’m going with the generic basket ball tank top for this video”. Just wondering.

I agree that asking people what they mean is a great way to cut the crap, and I also believe that people need get with it in asking that question properly, as in asking what a person’s ethnicity is. This question is a trigger for me as an Asian American, Fil-Am who has traveled in Asia. Getting that question and then being told I’m not American because I’m not white from people who look like me – I could have stayed in the U.S. for that bullshit.
