By jozjozjoz | Tuesday, January 25, 2011 | 50 Comments

UPDATE on 2/4/2011: This giveaway is now closed. The randomly selected winners have been contacted and will be announced soon.

The Year of the Rabbit is just a week away (on February 3!) and if you weren’t one of the winners of last week’s giveaway, here’s another chance to win a $50 Lunar New Year Gift card, courtesy of American Express!

American Express® makes it easy to give family, friends, and business associates what they want for the Chinese Lunar New Year, while celebrating the rich culture of the Chinese community. The new limited edition Year of the Rabbit Gift Card, exclusively from American Express, is available for purchase online with a free-shipping offer at americanexpress.com/rabbit.

“Working in collaboration with our internal Asian Network at American Express, we are excited to introduce this Gift Card celebrating Chinese culture,” said Alpesh Chokshi, president of Global Payment Options, American Express. “I, along with American Express, wish the Chinese-American community a happy, healthy and prosperous Year of the Rabbit.”

With its traditional paper-cut depiction of a peaceful rabbit, the Year of the Rabbit Gift Card offers a unique gift option which can serve as an exciting and special alternative to the cash usually placed in red envelopes. The Year of the Rabbit Gift Card also offers other benefits:

  • Available in denominations of $25, $50, $100, and $200
  • Accepted at millions of locations in the United States where American Express® Cards are accepted
  • Funds on the card do not expire and there are no monthly fees
  • Gift Card is replaceable at no fee if lost or stolen

Unlike some other gift cards, American Express® Gift Cards have no fees after purchase for activation, checking a balance, monthly servicing, or card replacement. The online purchase price is $3.95 for all available denominations. Through February 28, 2011 get free standard shipping by visiting americanexpress.com/rabbit and using promo code ‘RABBIT.’

  • http://www.theactorsdiet.com/ ActorsDiet

this is an awesome giveaway!!! especially for those of us who are too old to get red envelopes anymore…

  • TienVNguyen

  • oasis789

  • icitea

This is an awesome giveaway because the card is so cute! And it will totally match with all the decor that’s already up for New years. Love it~

  • SusanJ

Woohoo! We get another chance to win! That’s why it’s awesome. Who couldn’t use $50???

  • YvesPaul

    Let’s try this again:

I was born in the year of the bunny (which really tells my age…) and I would love nothing better than to have something commemorating my year with something as culturally appropriate, not to mention beautiful looking as this American Express card. It has been more than a decade since I’ve received a red envelope and I would really treasure it and its $50 value. Crossing my fingers!

  • http://www.merchantsmirror.com darkmoon

I’m hoping that Joz accidentally just sends me all five $50 AMEX gift cards so I can .. umm.. “photograph” them. Yeah. And why it’s awesome? Giving away money is always awesome. As long as I’m not the one doing the “giving”. lol.

  • Malky

One reason why this is a great giveaway::…IT’S A GIVEAWAY! Haha, this is great that American Express releases these cards, I actually really like the designs. I would love to win, I could probably buy a better gift for my brother than Christmas with the money haha!

  • timat8asians

Both my mom and my spouse were born in the year of the rabbit. Does that make me doubly lucky? BTW, I think Joz is awesome for coming up with this giveaway.

  • jeffat8asians

This is an awesome giveaway because it gives us folks who didn’t win the first time a second chance. Plus, it doesn’t exclude 8asians contributors!

  • DInoue

Awesome because it’s a second chance to win.

  • pandamonium

I am excited for a second chance for this awesome giveaway! :)

  • AM24

This is an awesome give away because the design of the gift card is really nice. I keep pretty gift cards even after they’re used up, so I could add this to my collection of items with the zodiac on them. I could also use the $50 to pay off some college application fees that I’ve racked up so far… it’s ridiculous how expensive college is before college.

  • alabanya

This is an awesome giveaway because it’ll give myself an opportunity to redeem myself for the last sweepstake’s failure haha! I stumbled here onto your site and can’t seem to stop reading about rice rockets, Asian problems, etc from the members @ 8asians.
    BTW, Moye is fine~

This is an awesome give away because it adds on to the festivity of Chinese New Year! This is one of my favorite times of the year– to celebrate the culture of all of my relatives back in Taiwan. One of the most wonderful times of the year :)

  • CallieAlley

This is an awesome giveaway–b/c this card can be spent just like cash! I’d use it at the grocery store and I’d feel like my groceries were free!

  • wizzy0807

This was an awesome giveaway last week when I didn’t win! Its awesomeness has doubled now that there’s a Round 2.

I was born in the year of the dog, and dogs chase rabbits at the dog track for money. Thus, I am birth-fated to chase this rabbit-money to the finish line. …OK, that’s a metaphorical nightmare, but fifty bucks buys a lot of kibble (and a few bits).

  • uccloud9

    awesomesauce.

This giveaway is awesome because there’s another chance to win! Oddly enough, I saw a rabbit on my way to class today!

  • sacasn

This is an awesome giveaway because I missed the last one.
And here are 3 more reasons:
I almost ran over a rabbit the other day on my way to work. I am glad I didn’t.
Rabbits were the most popular animals in my elementary school zoo.
We eat moon cakes when looking for the rabbit on the moon :-)

  • weemin5

Interesting bit: The Hare is swapped with the Cat in the Vietnamese Zodiac.

  • LmtH

  • atong

This is my third time trying to post a comment. Why did my first 2 comments get deleted? sigh. Anyway, I tweeted about this post yesterday. This is an awesome post because who would not want to win $50? I could do a lot with $50. I’ll spend it for sure, which would help spur the economy. I can spend it on myself or on my sister. There’s so much you can do with $50, which makes this giveaway awesome.

  • atong

fyi, i have not won anything from 8asians before. I started posting here yesterday! check my ip address if so inclined.

  • JoanneTan

This is an awesome giveaway because I love rabbits, I was born in the year of the rabbit and I love American Express, only credit card I have since 2006. Two of the things I love combined in one. In addition, it celebrates the Lunar New Year! :D Spreading awareness of Asian culture, always a plus!

  • JustJunghee

Awesome because “American” Express is celebrating the Lunar New Year with 8″Asians” (yay Asians!). And yay for free money! Coming from an Asian who doesn’t get money for New Year’s…

  • Hokkiengirl

I love the card. What a modern way to give a red packet! So cute too!

  • weird_f00d

This is an awesome gift because I didn’t have a chance to win the one before xD and it would be so nice to have $50 because I’m short on $ :D

  • terrorbyte

This is an awesome giveaway because this is the only place left to get these really cute cards! My friend wants one but American Express isn’t selling them on their store anymore!

  • FakeGradSchool

  • thepricklypinecone

Well as a rabbit lover this whole year is great but having a giveaway about the year of the rabbit with a rabbit giftcard, well thats just epic! Thanks so much for the chance.

  • Kakastav

This giveaway is nice because I could use the money to invest in my health – I need to make some extreme changes this year, and start by keeping fit at the local gym. Thank you, and good luck.

    I have also tweeted (Kakastav)

  • deanobambino

    Yes Please!

  • emilylegit

Although I’m not the year of the rabbit, I think this giveaway is awesome because I’m still unemployed and could really use the card. :p
