The 8Asians Talk About: Chinese 3D Porn Beats Avatar’s Box Office Record

Our internal e-mail lists have us discussing all kinds of stuff: Asian American identity, representation in the media, the experiences of activism in an academia setting and its progression as we transition to the working, adult world. And sometimes, we talk about the film to unseat Avatar’s record as the single day box office record in Hong Kong — a Chinese 3D soft-core erotic film called 3D Sex and Zen: Extreme Ecstasy.

Edward: Chinese 3D porn film does extremely well. LOL.

Ernie: As opposed to “Chinese 3D porn film does kinda so-so?” Dare I ask what it’s good at doing?

Edward: For a so-so film, it’s making a looooooooooooot of money and a Taiwan premiere on IMAX 3D? IMAX FREAKIN 3D?!?!? AND A SEQUEL?? Sex sells. Plain and simple.

Joz: Wait. People are actually going into theatres to watch this thing? With a room full of other people? Are the floors sticky when it’s all over? Ewwwwwwwww.

Mike: Pee Wee Herman laugh: Haw haw!

Efren: The last thing I want to see are 20 foot vaginas and penises in 3D. I think I’d have nightmares. “OMG! It’s the 20 foot vagina!”

Joz: 20 foot genitals– proof that Asians DON’T have the smallest penes, vaginas, and breasts.

Which brings me to this: what kind of IMAX theater in Asia would actually show an adult film? Seedy adult movie theaters in Hong Kong don’t have IMAX movies, do they? Do they sanitize the glasses after every showing? Man, Asia really does have everything.
