Apparently there’s a world record for anything, including the ability to smash the most number of nuts with your nuts.* Seeing as how this is totally ridiculous, I wasn’t surprised to see this feat accomplished by the Japanese. That said, where’s the world record for smashing balls with your balls? Or smashing (chicken) breasts with your breasts? Or hammering nails with your nails? Or…or…Okay, I’m out of ideas.
*Just kidding. I know he’s smashing nuts with his butt. “Smashing nuts with your nuts” sounds way more fun, though.

Jason Wu, best known for designing First Lady Michelle Obama’s Inaugural gown, will launch an exclusive collection with Target, following the likes of McQ Alexander McQueen, Zac Posen, Jean Paul Gaultier and Missoni: “Target has announced the collection will be available February 5 through March 6 of next year at most Target stores and Target.com. FOX’s Glee: Love it for the musicals, Hate it for the musicals, Love it for seeing Asians on television, Hate it for seeing stereotyped Asians on television with Charice, Publicly hate the show on your Facebook and twitter but secretly watch the show on Hulu while your college roommates aren’t looking. Whatever your persuasion, tonight’s episode of Glee fleshes out Mike Chang’s character, giving him an A- (The Asian F, hence the episode) and the previously discussed casting of the daughter from The Joy Luck Club that isn’t Mulan as his mother.
Rest assured that someone from 8A will blog about the episode after it airs, since it’s already caught the attention of “oh hey we published that story about Tiger Moms” publication The Washington Post. But until then: how do we officially feel about this, Internet?
Distributed by Lotte Entertainment, War of the Arrows is directed and written by Kim Han-Min. The film is something I’ve been wanting out of Korean films for a long time: an epic action film that keeps you on your toes but also has a great story line. The original film premiered in South Korea this August under the name: Arrow: The Ultimate Weapon (최종병기 활). Personally, the new English name seems a lot more fitting.
Via Bitch Magazine: “When I called up Sueyoshi to chat about the ‘cultural castration’ of Asian American men, historically cast as impotent nerds, lacking virility and sex appeal (or played derisively by white men, a la Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany’s), her insight quickly reminded me that explanations for How Things Came to Be are far more complex than the kneejerk responses and belief systems they manufacture over time. Because that’s what these gender- and ethnicity-based stereotypes are—prefab constructs that we erect, brick by brick, bound together with a mortar of fear and discrimination.” (Hat tip: Stan)

As an Indian American family returned home from the airport, two armed men appeared and told them to get into their house. Once inside, the robbers forced them to kneel, ripped chains off the wife’s neck, and stole $25,000 of jewelry from the house. According to this article from Bay Citizen, this family, like an increasing number of other Indian Americans in Silicon Valley, was targeted for one reason: gold.

I watch The Sing Off (so sue me), which is basically a singing competition for a capella groups that ends up being less American Idol and X-Factor and more like Glee. After the introductory piece to a capella group Pentatonix casually mentioned that the beat boxer was discovered via a viral video on YouTube. Some additional digging reveals that Kevin Olusola is a pre-med student at Yale. Oh, and he speaks Chinese, as illustrated in the attached video where he converses in perfect Mandarin to the camera before beatboxing. And playing cello. The bastard.
Congratulations, Kevin Olusola – your cello, Chinese skills and beatboxing make you the coolest person in the universe while simultaneously being the child that every Asian parent wants their kids to be. Jealous? Me? Of course not. I’ll just go back to playing Farmville now.
Not Oprah? What? This can’t be! But no, quite on the contrary, it seems that the richest woman in the world happens to be Wu Yanjun, executive director of Longfor Properties Co., who has a net worth of $6.6 billion. Interestingly enough, most of the wealth amassed by Chinese women seem to happen in the crazy real estate market. And I know that for a fact judging by Shanghai condo prices last time I spoke to my mom whom is a realtor herself. And no, my mom isn’t one of those women. That I know of anyways.

About a month ago, I kept getting pinged by people sending me links to the video of California-based electronic pop band IAMMEDIC jumping around in Star Trek uniforms. I’m a sucker for a Starfleet uniform, so I got in touch with IAMMEDIC’s starship captain leader, Enik Lin, and it turns out these guys aren’t even Trekkies! So who are these guys who they call their fans “Paramedics,” anyway? Read on for more about IAMMEDIC, Enik’s guilty pleasure, and of course, his Asian comfort food!
