Jeremy Lin Off to the New York Knicks

By John | Wednesday, December 28, 2011 | 3 Comments

act jeremy lin Jeremy Lin Off to the New York KnicksWell, NBA basketball player Jeremy Lin didn’t have much time to settle down at the Houston Rockets. He’s already been traded to the New York Knicks:

The New York Knicks have claimed guard Jeremy Lin off waivers to fill a void at backup point guard. Lin was released Sunday by the Rockets to make roster room for Houston’s signing of Samuel Dalembert. … The Knicks, who last week claimed sharpshooter Steve Novak off waivers, needed another guard after rookie Iman Shumpert suffered a knee injury in New York’s Christmas Day win over Boston. New York is also still waiting for recently signed point guard Baron Davis to recover from a back injury in order to thrust him into the starting lineup.

The ESPN video makes a funny point that there have been more U.S. presidents (five) from Harvard than those who have gone to the NBA (with only three Harvard alums). Image courtesy of the NBA.

Technical correction: JLin was not traded — he was released by the Rockets, and picked up by the Knicks.

It’s a low-risk flier for the Knicks, who give JLin a chance to show off his skills for a few weeks until the Knicks’ starting guards heal up, at which point he’ll probably be released again. His contract is non-guaranteed which means he can be cut any time before Feb 10 and the NBA team that has him at the time doesn’t have to count his salary towards the season salary cap.
