President Obama’s Lunar New Year Message for 2012, Year of the Dragon

President Obama wishes all Americans, including Asian American and Pacific Islanders, a Happy Lunar New Year, which is the Year of the Dragon, beginning today, January 23rd.

I like the fact that Obama recalls his childhood growing up in Hawaii (which is predominately Asian), as he sincerely recalls his youthful memories of Lunar New Year celebrations past – with parades, fireworks, and small family gatherings. And how Obama reiterates that America is stronger because of its diversity, not in spite of it. Happy Lunar New Year!

Is it just me and my lack of political awareness in my earlier years (or lack of knowledge about the history of presidents)? Or is Obama the first president to really acknowledge Asian Pacific Americans?

I guess it helps that he grew up in the only predominantly APA state in the country and his sister is 100% APA…

He’s got my vote, unless Ron Paul is the other candidate, which will make me think hard before probably still voting for Obama lol

Props to President Obama. He’s the first president in U.S. history that actually is taking notice of Asian-Americans! No other president I recall have ever given a national address to the Asian-Americans in this country! He’s got my vote in 2012!
