The 20th season of The Amazing Race premiered this past Sunday and unfortunately, sisters Misa and Maiya Tanaka were the first to be eliminated. Things did not start off well for the Tanaka sisters when they were the last to complete the first challenge and make their way to Argentina. In the last challenge, they were able to make up time and were second to last, but inadvertently, they were within sight and shouting distance of checking in and had such tunnel vision, they did not take a good look to see where to check in and went in a different direction.
This allowed the previous team in last place to leap frog and check in before the Tanakas. Even The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan was amazed at the circumstances – pointing out that something like this had never happened on the show before! He wasn’t doing this to rub things in – he was truly shocked to see the Tanakas within reach of not being eliminated, only to be eliminated when they went in a different direction.
