Zhang Ziyi Rumored To Have Had Paid Sex With Bo Xilai

By John | Monday, June 4, 2012 | 6 Comments

Zhang Ziyi and Bo Xilai 300x195 Zhang Ziyi Rumored To Have Had Paid Sex With Bo XilaiI’m a big fan of the actress and model Zhang Ziyi. Recently, there have been rumors in the Chinese media that she is reportedly under investigation by the Chinese government and barred from leaving the country. The allegations include:

“Hong Kong’s Apple daily and other Chinese media reported that the pair was first introduced by Bo’s associate, Xu Ming, 41, who is the founder and chairman of Dalian Shide Group. Sources say Xu confessed to paying Zhang 6 million yuan (S$1.2 million) in 2007, to have sex with her for the first time.

He later negotiated a deal for Bo to have sex with Zhang, for 10 million yuan (S$2 million). Reports say the 33-year-old actress slept with Bo at least 10 times between 2007 and 2011 in Beijing. The Chinese media also estimated that Zhang’s sexual transactions with various rich and powerful figures have netted her 700 million yuan over the last 10 years. This includes 180 million yuan in cash from Xu.”

First of all, if you don’t who Bo Xilai is, then you haven’t been keeping up with the latest Chinese political news for the past few months. To put it simply, Bo Xilai is a recently dethroned high level government official and high level Chinese Communist Party leader.

I find it ridiculous that a successful actress like Zhang Ziyi would want or need to have paid sex with anyone. I’m sure she’s made a decent living from her films, and as I’ve blogged about before, she’s also a spokesmodel for Omega, amongst I’m sure many other source of income that have nothing to do with selling sex.

Sadly, I am not surprised if some of the allegations are true.  After living in China for many years and running in various social circle, one constant trait that was glaring was the materialism that existed, and it spanned all classes … in fact the more well off many of these folks were, the more entitled to it they felt and it showed.  As this nouveau riche mentality is very different than my own middle class upbringing,  I found it fascinating and yet appalling initially.  Now i just find it sad.  But after seeing what I saw those many years, I would not be surprised if the allegations were closer to the truth than we would like.

That said, so what?  Shouldn’t anyone have the right to do as they please with their own lives and money?  Consensual regardless of the money changing hands is still really not our business.

don’t think Ziyi Zhang will ever get married to a Chinese bureaucrat:  they have to maintain the facade of decency

I just skimmed that link, and while I understand all too well about hating aspects of one’s own native culture, I doubt Chiina’s current infatuation with worldly pursuits has so much to do with being Chinese so much as it’s a reaction to not only the terrible corruption which came as a result of Communism, but also the severe economic disparity that was the result.  Combine that with a huge country with a _lot_ of people, with only a tiny fraction of them wealthy while the rest are locked into a lifetime of what amounts to indentured servitude or poverty, and you have all the makings of a society whose people have lost the ability to care for their fellow person because they’re so busy ekeing out a miserable existence, competing with each other for survival.

Greed, corruption, materialism and lack of empathy are not unique to the Chinese people: you see it everywhere where a handful of people at the very top get to live the high life while everyone else gets nothing, and everywhere that is rife with corruption and lacking in social egalitarianism.
