The CHINK Trailer Is Out!

By Moye | Wednesday, September 5, 2012 | 16 Comments

So what does our very own Koji Steven Sakai do when he’s not “researching” the latest on Asian body parts for 8Asians? He’s busy writing movies! The trailer for his latest movie, CHINK, has finally been released. Produced by Koji and Quentin Lee, directed by Stanley Yung and starring Jason Tobin, the film follows a young serial killer named Eddy copes with his own racial identity issues, a horrible boss and a killing spree.

Check out the production photos on TwitchTV and enjoy the trailer above!

Thanks for rating this! Now tell the world how you feel - Share this on Twitter and on Facebook.
(Nah, it's cool; just take me back.)

More Uncle Tom behavior. When will asians realize that willingly accepting the mantle of racism isn’t cool, or mature, or modern, but self-denigrating and self-humilating? Now, thanks to this movie, everyday americans can freely use the word “Chink” in justifiable everyday conversation intentionally within earshot of asian americans? And they can’t do anything about it.

It seems asian americans are their own worst enemy.

Besides the title its very different. Could some one main purpose or goal in life is to be a serial killer and be Asian? There isn’t many well known Asian-American serial killers unless your are talking governments. That is just mass murder. Its interesting yet odd plot.

  • Model Minority

The premise is fascinating but the teaser trailer looks horrible. While fully aware that this is an extremely low budget film, the lead doesn’t look convincing at ALL. This looks like a student film at best and this may be yet another Asian American film that has an ambitious premise that fails to execute itself fully..

The facts that 1. 8asians would write up this ill-titled movie so enthusiastically; 2. 8Asians doesn’t actually facilitate any kind of intelligent dialogue about a movie with this title; and 3. 8Asians thinks this actually looks like a creative work that deserves to be promoted (have you actually watched this very low quality-of-work trailer?) – all says lots about how low 8Asians stoops these days for page clicks. Makes me sad.

“everyday americans can freely use the word “Chink” in justifiable everyday conversation intentionally within earshot of asian americans?”
Huh? I thought Asian Americans were still considered everyday Americans. Please don’t tell me you actually mean “everyday American” = non-asian or more specifically white?

I do agree that naming a movie “Ch*nk” isn’t helping anything, and it’s basically trading in “model minority” for “self-hating Asian” or “serial killer”. There are plenty of movies that negatively portray Asians, there is no need for another one.

of course, we won’t be seeing another one from Koji called “Jap and Nip” anytime soon…

By analogy would Blacks produce a film in 2012 called ‘Nigger?’ Shouldn’t be surprised by the choice of film topic or title considering Koji’s articles prima facie consist of self-deprecating discussions on Asian genitalia size, Koji is a victim of white society.

Incidently, a random American posted a comment on my UK blog saying something along the lines of… 8Asian website is lame and doesn’t tackle hard issues. My blog is more radical thinking and we don’t even
have academic studies on British East Asian diaspora.

There’s already been a book, documentary and even a rap album called “Nigger” so I don’t think pulling the What would black people do card works here.

Critics of the trailer, shut it till you see it. I only see positives in making subversive *American* films like these esp. with an Asian actor. It gives us more screen time and (hopefully) complexity to be considered for work in Hollywood. You don’t see whites complaining, all up-in-arms with films like “American Psycho” or “Natural Born Killers” now do you?

“You don’t see whites complaining, all up-in-arms with films like “American Psycho” or “Natural Born Killers” now do you?”

lol, maybe because they get plenty of representation and “screen time” in the media, with complex characters of all types (including many POSITIVE ones). As opposed to asians who get evil yellow peril, smart math students, or killers. What about giving us complex, positive roles first before being happy about asians playing serial killers.

Incidentally, a random UKer posted a comment on this blog saying something along the lines of… bbczeitgeist is a total waste of time and keeps trying to advertise on other asian sites.

i think the title sucks because dumb people will not get the point of the movie and they’ll throw the word around stupidly.
BUT the idea for the movie sounds very very thought provoking and interesting. it is a film from the perspective of an Asian american man who is completely aware of how racist American society disrespects him and decides to reclaim that respect through violence, and forcing people to stop treating him as if he’s invisible. how often is that perspective voiced?? So many Asian Americans are treated like invisible, boring clones because of racist stereotypes, and here is a film that addresses that issue and puts it front and center.
One thing is, I can’t tell what its going to be like. Could be that it sells itself out for the sake of a stupid horror movie, but I can’t tell at this point. At least it brings up the issue though.

luckily this film sucks so much I don’t think enough people will see it for it to matter.
