Janet Liang is a recent UCLA graduate of Chinese descent. On August 24, 2009, she was diagnosed with lymphoblastic leukemia. In order to survive, she needs to find a bone marrow donor by April. The most likely match for a donor will be a Chinese American. The process of registering as a donor is easy, and testing if you are a match is a simple, painless cheek swab.

There are several big names in the APA community asking anyone out there to register as a donor and get tested in search of a match. Check them out after the jump.

Victor Kim from Quest Crew is hosting a jam at UC Irvine for those in the Southern California Area. He is also giving 100% of the revenue from iTunes sales of his song featuring rapper Dumbfoundead to help Janet search for a donor.

ISA, including KevJumba, Ryan Higa, Wong Fu Productions, and Far East Movement, are also shedding light on this cause, with this informative video about how much more as a community we could be involved to help find donors.

The Research Forum explores the issues surrounding the Asian American experience with the goal of promoting a more profound understanding of Asian America. Faces of Asian America welcomes research from all disciplines including but not limited to History, Literature, Sociology, and Cinema. All students are invited to enter their work such as papers from current or past academic courses or independent study. All submitted research will be reviewed by a panel, and twelve outstanding papers will be selected to participate at the Forum.

Given the recent comments on 8Asians lately, I think it’s time to remind everyone of this again: Personal attacks against other commenters are not permitted. You may question or argue about content, but not attack individuals. Comments that devolve into ad hominem attacks, intentionally bait others, or are deliberately disruptive may be deleted, and failure to respect fellow participants could result in removal or blocked access.

Commenters must have a real name as well as a profile photo. As we currently use the LiveFyre commenting platform, commenters can easily attach their identity by logging in LiveFyre through Facebook, or you may add a photo to your LiveFyre profile directly. While we will not instantaneously ban an anonymous comment, we are more likely to delete comments that are aggressive towards other people or groups of people if they don’t have a name or a profile photo.

Our internal e-mail lists have us discussing all kinds of stuff: Asian American identity, representation in the media, the experiences of activism in an academia setting and its progression as we transition to the working, adult world. Sometimes, we have the best intentions. For example: here we an announcement talking about a new Facebook Fan page and redesign of our shopping blog, GASP! and our new GASP! editor, Susan. Well, it starts out as an announcement, at least.

Susan: Got a call from my mother today. At some point she said she’d been reading GASP! and asked who wrote the blurbs. I told her it was me. She thinks I’m funny. I just wanted to tell y’all.

Joz: At least she didn’t say you’re funny looking. (BTW, great job on GASP!)

Mike: Aw, that’s sweet of your Mom. Did she like the Tiger and Bunny mousepad too?

Efren: OMG. Why did I suddenly have “we like the cars, the cars that go boom…” in my head? And yes, I’m seriously dating myself. (None of you under 30 and are not from the Bay Area will get this reference.)

Ernie: But the ones that DO get the reference will tease their hair and do a little bouncy dance. Heyyyyy.

Efren: Those of us who still do have hair, that is. Dammit.

Jeff: Ha! So young.

Tim: Do you mean this?

Efren: Timmie: yes, and you are over 30 and from the Bay Area, so I’d expect you to get it.
