Nguyen Girls’ Yearbook Prank: No, We’re Not Related

Nguyen Girls’ Yearbook Prank: No, We’re Not Related

I can’t count how many times I’ve heard the question. I happen to be with Asian American friends, whether in church or at a restaurant. An acquaintance, or even a perfect stranger will ask: Are you related? Once I was sitting with friends visiting one of the churches I was serving as a pastor. They all happened to be Chinese American – one guy, two girls. Afterwards, my colleague and at least a handful of [...] Continue »

Comedian Joe Wong’s Fourth Appearance on Letterman

Wow, David Letterman must really like Joe Wong. Wong made his fourth appearance on The Late Show last Friday night. I saw Joe perform last Fall when he was in San Francisco and he remembered me when we first met a few years ago (also in San Francisco). We chatted briefly and was impressed to learn that Joe quit his day job, and has been doing comedy full-time now. I think Joe’ best (and longest [...] Continue »

21 Jump Street Movie: Where Is Dustin Nguyen?

21 Jump Street Movie: Where Is Dustin Nguyen?

I had the opportunity to watch 21 Jump Street at its SXSW premiere. Stars Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller as well as other members of the cast and crew were on hand for a Q&A after the screening. I just thought I would share all that information with you so that it would make me sound like a humblebragging douche.

Fung Brothers: The Jeremy Lin Effect 2- LINSANITY

Fung Brothers: The Jeremy Lin Effect 2- LINSANITY

To be honest, I don’t keep up with basketball too much. I only watch games here and there, but even I know that Jeremy Lin is being talked about everywhere about how he’s leading Knicks to victory and making his team a stronger team. Every other Asian American is “Linsanely” applauding how great Jeremy Lin is. He has been getting a lot of publicity and recognition on his hardwork and talent. I want to step [...] Continue »

TMZ Asks Apolo Anton Ohno, “Who is the Best Asian-American Athlete?”

TMZ Asks Apolo Anton Ohno, “Who is the Best Asian-American Athlete?”

A TMZ cameraman stalked Apolo Ohno while he was leaving the gym and asked, “Who is the best Asian-American[sic] athlete?” The TMZ staff tries to answer this question, as well. Not surprisingly, the TMZ staff was stumped by the question, but who did Apolo give as his answer? What are your thoughts on the question or this video?

Kung Fu Master Teaches Dance

Kung Fu Master Teaches Dance

Every once in a while, I’ll get an email or a blog posting about a commercial I blogged about, like the McDonald’s commercial. The actor I highlighted, Vince Foster, sent a shout out thanking for profiling him and wanted to showcase a recent skit he helped put together with his friends. Funny, while just looking at his “What’s New” section of his site, I realized that Foster is also in the Samsung commercial mocking Apple [...] Continue »

Viral Like SARS: Prison Dancer: The Interactive Web Musical

From the 8Asians Suggestion Box: “I’m Carmen, the co-creator/writer of Prison Dancer: The Interactive Web Musical. [...] Beyond being part of the ‘Filipino Youtube’ movement, Prison Dancer is a story inspired by Filipinos – created by Filipinos – and ACTED by Filipinos. Not to say this is exclusionist of any other Asians but as a former cast member of Miss Saigon (I’m Filipina), I can say I appreciate that we’re actually portraying ourselves this time! Australian Comedian Plays Overbearing Asian Mom in HBO’s Angry Boys

Australian Comedian Plays Overbearing Asian Mom in HBO’s Angry Boys

With his new HBO show, Angry Boys, Australian comedian Chris Lilley is following the grand politically incorrect tradition of Chapelle’s Show and Da Ali G Show by skewering pop culture and testing audience’s offensive threshold when it comes to tackling portrayal of race.

John Cho Talks A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas And His Christmas Wishlist

John Cho Talks A Very Harold and Kumar 3D Christmas And His Christmas Wishlist

If you haven’t noticed, 8Asians has nothing but love for A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas (and the entire Harold & Kumar franchise for that matter) — and why shouldn’t we? The movie has two Asian leads in off-beat (*ahem* non-stereotypical *ahem* stoner) roles. That said, when we get the chance to interview John Cho and/or Kal Penn we will jump on it because we like famous Asians. Moye had the opportunity to interview [...] Continue »

8Questions with John Cho & Kal Penn on A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas, Nudity & Occupy Wall Street

Harold and Kumar are back for a brand new adventure with a Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas but this time, they’re older, wiser and well, not really friends with each other any more. Uh-oh. Does this mean their best friendship is over together? I had to find out for myself. I sat down with stars John Cho and Kal Penn to talk about the latest sequel and was treated to a pretty hilarious conversation. [...] Continue »
