If there was any recent sports phenomenon that was partially driven by social media, certainly breakout star Jeremy Lin of the New York Knicks qualifies. Apparently, the NBA will host a social media awards special in a week:
“On June 20, the NBA will present its first-ever NBA Social Media Awards on NBA TV at 9 p.m. The event will celebrate the moments that generated the most buzz on social media during the NBA season. It will be hosted by 15-time All-Star and current TNT analyst Shaquille O’Neal and his former Laker teammate Rick Fox. There are 12 different categories, six of which can be voted on by fans on the NBA’s website.”
If Lin doesn’t win this award, I will be shocked. You can vote for Lin here (“Linsanity Begins”). The NBA defined Linsanity as beginning after Lins’ breakout performance scoring 38 points against the L.A. Lakers.
