Looks like the live-action film of the iconic anime Akira is slowly coming together and today, Deadline revealed the short list of actors to take the two lead roles of Tetsuo and Kaneda. The adaptation now takes place in New Manhattan:
…I’m told that for Tetsuo, Robert Pattinson, Andrew Garfield and James McAvoy have been given the new script. For the role of Kaneda, the script has been given to Garrett Hedlund, Michael Fassbender, Chris Pine, Justin Timberlake and Joaquin Phoenix. The two leads are expected to come from that group of actors.
Why, yes, we’ve always envisioned a real life version of Akira with that glittery vampire from Twilight and bringing-sexy-back Justin Timberlake. YAY! I’m so excited. The Last Airbender was fun to boycott but let’s be honest, we were all running out of Shyamalan jokes. Thanks, Hollywood, for giving us even more to mock.
