Asian American Commercial Watch: Wells Fargo’s “Noodles”

By John | Wednesday, September 19, 2012 | 1 Comment

I caught this Wells Fargo ad recently, supposedly about a female small business owner who manufacturers noodles and is seeking to expand and needs a loan from Wells Fargo. I wonder about the voice over for that woman – since it seems to have a slight British or Singaporean accent (maybe I am just hearing things…) Additionally, her voice over in her last line sounds like a slightly different voice? (And I’m not talking about the voice of “Wells Fargo.”) And do Wells Fargo bankers (or any bankers for that matter) walk through factories and sit down with potential clients at cafes – seems like a cliche. The only time I’ve seen a Wells Fargo banker is at a Wells Fargo. I guess if I were a gazillionare and had my millions managed through Wells Fargo, my banker would meet me anywhere to attend to my financial needs. And did the banker need to be a taller white guy?

It’s really the same voice. The first part was her trying to imitate an Asian accent (it’s stupid, but listen to a few times and deduce it with the scenes), the second part was her natural sound.
It’s not close to anything remotely British or Singaporean.

Anyways, Wells Fargo is a decent bank. They do cater a lot to Asians, especially in California.
