Reel in the Vote winner: My Vote My Voice by Henry Ahn

REEL IN THE VOTE is a non-partisan campaign launched by the San Diego Asian Film Foundation to encourage more Asian Pacific Islander Americans (APIAs) to participate in the democratic process, REEL IN THE VOTE ran a Public Service Announcement (PSA) contest and recently announced Henry Ahn of Washington, D.C. and his PSA, “My Vote, My Voice” as the winner of the competition.

To be honest, I’m not sure I agree that Ahn’s PSA was the best one… you can take a look at all the finalists’ PSA’s here.

According to Reel in the Vote:

“Sadly, statistics show Asian Pacific Islander Americans have the lowest rates of voter participation among all ethnic groups, and Asian American women have the lowest rates of voter participation among all groups, with less than one quarter of eligible voters actually registering to vote. While there may be many cultural reasons behind the dismal numbers, APATHY is our worst enemy.”

That is pretty sad and pathetic. So if you haven’t registered yet, please do – time is running out or already has (this coming Monday is the last day in California to register). Check out www.justvote.org to look up your registration deadlines (Disclaimer: this is a non-partisan site I’m helping out with). If you have ever complained about the direction of country and haven’t voted, stop complaining, get involved and vote!

About John

I'm a Taiwanese-American and was born & raised in Western Massachusetts, went to college in upstate New York, worked in Connecticut, went to grad school in North Carolina and then moved out to the Bay Area in 1999 and have been living here ever since - love the weather and almost everything about the area (except the high cost of housing...)
