Although July 4th and the biggest celebrations for the United States 250th Anniversary have already passed, an exhibit in in the Federal Hall National Memorial in New York will honor Asian American contributions to American society for twelve days starting in mid September. Hidden in Plain Sight: Asian Americans and the Making of America honors ten Asian Americans for their contributions to American society. Asian American Business Development Center sponsored this official 250th event.
The last link shows some of the honorees. The exhibit honors Tie Sing, who made contributions to Yosemite. Anna May Wong features prominently. Others I didn’t know. Narinder Singh Kapany, an innovator in fiber optics, is new to me. This existence of the exhibit surprised me, given how Asian Americans have been erased from military websites and other places. Then again, the show last for only twelve days months after the main celebration.
The Hidden in Plain Sight: Asian Americans and the Making of America will be at the Federal Hall National Museum in New York from September 16 through September 27.
