One of the highly anticipated Hollywood summer blockbuster action films of this year is Green Lantern, a superhero film based on the DC Comics character of the same name. The film stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Angela Bassett, Tim Robbins, Temuera Morrison, Taika Waititi, Geoffrey Rush, Michael Clarke Duncan and is scheduled to be released on June 17, 2011 in 3D.
New Zealand action director Martin Campbell directs a cast that include acclaimed Asia-Pacific actors Taika Waititi (Boy) and Temuera Morrison (Star Wars), who are two of New Zealand’s most celebrated Māori stars in key roles.
Award-winning writer/director/actor Taika Waititi plays Tom Kalmaku, an Inuit flight navigator and Hal’s closest confidant. Waititi recently wrote, directed and starred in “Boy,” his second feature, which has become New Zealand’s highest grossing local film of all time.
Action movie veteran Temuera Morrison portrays Abin Sur, the Green Lantern leader who bestows his powers onto Hal Jordan. Morrison is perhaps best known to U.S. audiences for playing Jango Fett in George Lucas’ Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones and Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
