I was channel surfing the other day, I came across on cable AZN Television’s 2007 “Asian Excellence Awards” hosted by Lost’s Daniel Dae Kim and Battlestar Galactica’s Grace Park. I caught the part of the show where Yul Kwon, (one of Ernie’s Top 6 Asian Reality Stars That Make Me Cringe) was accepting his award for Favorite Reality Star. What are the AZN Asian Excellence Awards you ask? According to the website:
“The AZN Asian Excellence Awards are the only nationally televised event celebrating significant Asian and Asian American achievements in entertainment, the arts and other disciplines that have had a profound impact on American culture.”
which was started only last year in 2006. The Awards may not be as prestigious, glamorous and as well known as an Oscar, Emmy, Tony or Grammy, but the awards have to start somewhere and is a start to getting much recognition to often overlooked Asian American achievements. Congrats to the winners!

Show was okay. A bit surreal with Kenny G doing his thang. Highlight for me was Rob Schneider poking fun at AZN and Asians. Keeping hoping his shtick turns up on youTube.

Whoever thought of the name for that channel (and I have proof he was white) spent way too much time on AsianAvenue message boards... UGH.
That being said, congrats to the winners!
