A Response to New Penis Size Survey That Ranks US 11th, Right Behind Japan

When the article, New Penis Size Survey: U.S. Ranks 11th. Right Behind Japan article came out it seems everyone I knew was sending it to me and saying I should write about it for 8Asians. For some reason, when people read about body parts and it mentions Asians or Asian Americans, they think of me. I’m not sure if I should be flattered or worried. I’m going with flattered.

For the record, I do have thoughts not related to body parts and Asians but I admit I do find them interesting/funny/disturbing.

On to this article. As the title of it clearly states, Japanese males have the tenth largest average penis size (from a sample size of 500,000 males), which is slightly bigger than the average American male. I read the article (so you don’t have to) but what was most fascinating to me was that males from Thailand had the biggest penis’ in Asia. Is this true? Can anyone confirm this? Hello? Anyone?

Before we get too excited (hahaha), keep two things to keep in mind about these findings:

  1. The “research” was funded by a Japanese company that is the “manufacturer of the world’s most popular male-masturbation merchandise.” I don’t even know what that means and I’m not sure I want to know.
  2. The results were based on self-measurement. The writer of the article suggests that maybe American men are more honest than Japanese men.

Am I saying that the results are wrong? No. But more importantly, why does it matter? Since I wrote my last article about Asians and penis size, I’ve had a baby (well, not me personally but you know what I’m trying to say). And if that experience taught me anything it is this: The whole point of the penis is to release urine and to procreate. And if that’s what it’s there for, it doesn’t matter if your penis is one inch or ten inches. Either would do the job just fine.

This article does bring up an interesting question for me: Why are Asians/Asian American so sensitive? Is it because of the stereotype? Is it because we don’t feel like we measure up to people of other races? Is it because we feel less of a “man” (whatever that means)?

I remember thinking a lot about these kinds of questions when I was writing The People I’ve Slept With. In the movie, the main character created “baseball cards” for all of her lovers. On one side of the card, it was the picture of the person she slept with and on the back were “statistics.” The statistics included the size of the man’s penis. This was a funny joke until it was an Asian American guy. As an Asian American filmmaker do I put that he has a small penis? Of course not. Do I put that he has an average size penis? No, that wouldn’t be interesting. Do I put that he has a large penis? Maybe. But would it seem like I’m trying to overcompensate? Again, maybe. Probably.

It should be noted that I ended up saying his penis was “huge.”

Let me also interject that one of the reasons it’s good to have Asian American filmmakers is that the last paragraph wouldn’t have come up if the writer (me) wasn’t Asian or Asian American. The easy joke is that Asians have small penis’ and I wouldn’t be surprised if a non-Asian writer went with that.

In the end, I want to reiterate the same message from every Asian body part article I have ever written: There is NO scientific correlation between size of a body part (any body part) and race. Like everything, there is a wide variety of sizes within every race. I know, you’re saying that you know that blah blah blah have the biggest and that blah blah blah have the smallest, but what you believe is just a prejudice and stereotype.

Thanks for rating this! Now tell the world how you feel - Share this on Twitter and on Facebook.
(Nah, it's cool; just take me back.)

If it weren’t for me, the US would have been ranked 25th :)

what a disappointment is the screenwriter of “Chink” the movie here.

“American” here is implicitly meant to be “white” no doubt – never mind there’s no evidence they only used Europeon-Americans in the study.

And somehow Asian-Americans are associated with Japanese nationals as well…

Also, given the Japanese reputation for “nail that sticks out gets hammered down” modesty, how do you know the respondents didn’t underestimate their size?

I’ve definitely seen enough asian men to know that just like every other man their penises come (cum?) in all sorts of sizes. it gets annoying to straighten out fellow caucasians and their insistence that asians have small penises. when and where did this stereotype start?

  • my self

Congo has the biggest at 7.1 inches and that isn’t that big….damn women are losing out on me sizes. Damn the day if I see an article on which nation of the world has a populist of woman with the biggest vaginas.

  • zdrav

Who knows? But the people who love to propagate this stereotype the most seems to be insecure white guys who are looking for every cheap advantage possibly in getting laid.

In matters of love and sex, who is going to talk up the competition?

There’s a difference between not talking up the competition and going around spreading lies like a sniveling sissy.

This sort of thing has been going on since the first 2 men walked the Earth.
I travel a circuit of 5 blogs and on one of them this subject came up with much heated debate.
    .
I developed a theory this Asian penis thing may have become more prominent due to the rise of the internet and the easy availability of Asian porn. much of it from Japan (those Japanese are a kinky bunch).
    .
I did a survey on 2 sites which offered a wide variety of porn involving different races and sexual lifestyles. My observations are not scientific.
    .
Much Japanese porn has men of smaller stature, many times not much bigger then the women they are with. Slim builds and small size produces what appears to be a smaller penis size. Why smaller men, I can not say but that type of male does make up a good portion of Japanese porn.
    .
Same with Ladyboys, they tended to have slight frames with smaller penises.
    .
Professional films tended to employ large penis blacks, but homemade porn the blacks tended to be average or smaller.
    .
Films that employed “European” sized Japanese males and Ladyboys had males of “average” size or larger. Many had oddities of hefty but slightly short men/Ladyboys with large than average penis size.
    .
    My conclusions:
    1) There is a lot of lousy porn out there and the Japanese are demented.

    2) Japanese and other Asian males that match the average European male in heft and height had similar sized penises to the European male, so no lacking there.

    3) Ladyboys have really nice hair and legs.

    4) The small penis thing was probably enhanced by much of the porn coming out of Asia.

    5) Probably better to be Asian and have a woman think you’re a bit small and surprise her with being average than to be a Black male with an average size penis.

    .
Outside of a few size queens, many women do not mind or prefer average size. Size was never a matter I really obsessed over and I usually do not bother with this type of post, I could not resist the US’s 11th ranking.
    .
Once again, if there was ever a girl I had an eye on expressed the least little interest in an Asian guy, I will certainly respond with “Well, you better bring a magnifying glass with you.” Sorry.guys.

  • sternhead

Well, Japanese porn must be having trouble finding the outliers. Survey by a Japanese company no less.

  • xolang

from what I’ve seen & read so far, this is related to Anglo societies having/putting (Hetero) White Male as the norm right at the top and assigning “others” who are “ethnic” certain characteristics. in the case of Asians and Blacks they’ve opted for portraying Asians as feminine and Blacks as masculine. so while Black males are hypervirilized, Asian males are emasculated, with White males, as mentioned, being the norm.

there’s this easily googlable documentary called “China Dolls ~ Gay Asian in the West”. it’s from 1998 but it gives you a clue about the racial-sexual dynamics in Anglo societies.

  • xolang

btw, Koji. thank you for writing “huge” into the script.

and that as the reaction of a woman who’s slept with a good number of non-Asian men?
I honestly think that would never happen with a non-Asian writer.

dixize shouldn’t matter that much, but it must have been a (pleasantly refreshing) surprise to many of us who grew up with (the influence of) Anglo media that have been beating the unhung dead horse/stud for decades now.

  • Mike Lee

I’d rather have a small penis than be white and considered a shoo in pedophile. 99% of the names on the Boy Scout list were white men, so, yeah, they got their own ish to deal with.

  • Mike Lee

I read somewhere that American penises were shrinking. Sorry white guys.
