Hines Ward in the Dancing in the Stars Finale

Yes, yes, we know that NFL Player Hines Ward will be in tonight’s finale of ABC ballroom juggernaut Dancing with the Stars. We also know that he’s half Black, half Korean, and recognizes his Korean heritage as discussed previously on this blog. So why haven’t we talked about our favorite half-Asian Superbowl MVP doing the Argentine Tango yet?

Because it’s Dancing with the Stars, that’s why. You know, the television show specifically tailored for wholesome entertainment for the whole family to watch? The show that casts daughters of Tea Party candidates and astronauts? The show with promos sandwiched between Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (White families crying) and Wipeout (White people falling on their face)? There may be 7.3 jillion people watching this show, but it’s pretty safe to assume they’re all over the age of 63. (Shhh. Except for you. I know, it’s okay. I won’t tell anyone.)

That said, if there’s ever going to be a relevant YouTube clip for an Asian American blog to show a YouTube clip of a dancing football player, it would most likely be this segment where Hines talks about his mother and all the hardships she faced. Also check out the table full of Koreans that leap to their feet after the dance is over. (Sure, somewhere in between that he does the Samba in the colors of the Pittsburgh Steelers and a bunch of judges gives him 9s, but whatevs.)
