I’ve blogged about eHarmony commercials before — well, a spoof of one at least — and while flipping through the channels again, I came across this real eHarmony ad. I was pleasantly surprised to see an Asian American man being profiled, and even more surprised to discover that his wife happened to be white. More often than not in television commercials, for mixed raced couples with an Asian, you usually see the white male with Asian female, much less an Asian American couple.

It's weird but that's one of the first things people say to us. “Usually, it's a white guy and Asian girl.” Just one time I'd like someone to say “Wow, you're a great looking couple.” Always about the race…

It's not so significant that you guys matched, and do look great together, but that eharmony actually decided to put you on TV. The great thing about putting your real-life relationship up there is that it's…real. On TV shows and movies, Asian men are all but absent. And when they show them, they're foreigners, like Daniel Dae Kim in Lost and Masi Oka in Heroes. And they're never with women, even Asian women, because that would humanize them.

yup, I'm the real eharmony Art
Fair point lazybye and by no means am I complaining. It was a fun experience as it was shot in San Francisco and at the end of the day, I was happy with the eHarmony outcome.
I admit it's weird finding your soulmate on the Internet, but at the same time I was surprised by the quality of matches (across all races as I'm pretty open minded and have dated the full spectrum.)
I suggested that I do a shirtless scene, but I don't think there is much demand for a flabby 30+ year old guy.
