Asian American Commercial Watch: Ally Bank and Randall Park

I just caught this commercial featuring funny man actor Randall Park. I think the last time I saw Park was when he was going on a date with a fellow Asian American in a Wells Fargo commercial – which I thought was a first. I also recently saw Park in the movie, The People I’ve Slept With. This time around, Park is in a commercial for Ally Bank, which appears to have him on a date – with a white woman. Now we’ve all see interracial couples of Asian Americans and other races, but 99.9% of the time it’s with an Asian American woman and white man. What struck me was that this might be the first national television commercial with an Asian American man with a white woman – and on a date. What do you think?

John where is this Ally bank located? (What state?) I never heard of it so it must be locally shown in one or two states. I have a Wells Fargo/Wachovia account which is nationwide . Otherwise, It’s cool Randall is getting more work and exposure.

@DMan Ally Bank is the former GMAC Bank, which did auto loans through GM dealers throughout the U.S. It’s still doing auto loans, but has transformed itself to a nation-wide Internet (online) bank.

This is probably history in the making. Despite what doubters and their sarcasm would like to suggest, it really is important to have fair representation of images in media. All ethnicities and real feminists have fought for fair representation in the media and should continue to do so. It is unjust and racist to portray and degrade certain ethnicities and genders in a single light. This has detrimental effects on society.
