Meet the Bloggers of 8Asians in Video Form

By Ernie | Thursday, November 10, 2011 | 23 Comments

A couple weeks ago, the White House Initiative of Asians and Pacific Islanders released the “What’s Your Story?” video challenge, aiming to explore the personal stories of Asians and Pacific Islanders. Wouldn’t you know it – 8Asians is a website full of Asian American bloggers! Here is 8Asians’ submission to the “What’s Your Story” challenge. Now you can finally match the faces to the black and white thumbnails and gradually realize that, yes, there are actual people that write content for the website every day. Unfortunately. We’d be a lot more efficient if we were robots. Writing robots, not teeth cleaning ones.

(Special thanks to Koji and Evan Kodani for producing this video.)

Thanks for rating this! Now tell the world how you feel - Share this on Twitter and on Facebook.
(Nah, it's cool; just take me back.)

  • Elliott

    … really? does EVERY SINGLE GUY ASIAN on 8asians have to wear glasses?? hahahaha… love it! i really do though, +1 on the involuntary smiling resulting from this video.

  • miheekimkort

    @jozjozjoz I knew I should have worn a different shirt.

    @dcj125 I see what you did there.

  • dcj125

    Oh hi guys. Good to put a face to the writing I read here. So did you all just ramble about being Asian for 10 minutes straight and let the editor mash-up the clips? Also, your English is pretty good! ;-]

  • jeffat8asians

    @Elliott I’m not wearing glasses.

  • http://www.8asians.com/author/akrypti/ akrypti

    @miheekimkort@jozjozjoz

    What, joz, you didn’t see Mihee and her twins?

  • mwei

    @jozjozjoz methinks they’re jealous Canadians being left out again…

  • Elliott

    @jeffat8asians Oops, I should’ve mentioned, every single Asian guy on 8asians *in this video*. I watched it a second time and still didn’t see any dudes without glasses… but hey, being bespectacled myself, maybe my eyes are just missing something?

    @Elliott@jeffat8asians

    When Tim and Jeff say “San Jose, CA” at the same time.

  • PeterLo

    You guys need more vanity shots of yourselves to include in articles. Although I’ve heard your voices in Christine’s productions, I feel like I can now hear your voices when reading your articles.

  • timat8asians

    I’ve tried contact lenses, but I can’t keep up the discipline, so it’s glasses for me

  • http://www.8Asians.com/ jozjozjoz

    @akrypti@miheekimkort Oh right! I forgot to say “Mihee has nice-looking twins.”

  • http://www.8asians.com/author/akrypti/ akrypti

    @jozjozjoz@miheekimkort They’re a lot bigger than I expected.

  • miheekimkort

    @akrypti @jozjozjoz well you know, they’re 100% real. All natural.

  • http://www.8Asians.com/ jozjozjoz

    @miheekimkort@akrypti They’ve definitely grown since the last time I saw pictures of them.

  • miheekimkort

    @jozjozjoz@akrypti Oh God help us.

    Love the video. Y’all look great.

    @Elliott Glasses are cool. Nothing wrong with them.

  • Elliott

    ok look, for the record, i have worn glasses [i think] every single day of my life since third grade and have been a faithful advocate of eyewear for decades. in high school, when presented with the conundrum of being one of two freshmen in JV volleyball to train with the varsity kids as long as i got contacts… i chose instead to quit playing volleyball. no matter where lasik technology takes us in the future, i have no intentions of ever not wearing glasses because i just love the way they look and the way you can turn your face into a canvas by utilizing them as a means of self-expression via fashion. all of that said, i guess i’m the only person who found it ironic that, on a website that’s often-times dedicated to combating asian stereotypes, all but one of the featured male staff wear glasses, thereby unintentionally fulfilling one of the most cliched asian stereotypes. i love my glasses and i love wearing them. like an asian man secure in the utility of his small albeit over-achieving penis, i am secure in the knowledge that i look good in my glasses while also able to comfortably acknowledge that yes, bespectacled asians remain a stereotype, and a negative one at that.

    i understand that most of you were filming these clips within the comforts of your homes and thus weren’t wearing contacts as i’d imagine a few of you probably do when in public. again, i understand that there’s nothing wrong with wearing glasses. i apologize for not catching the 2 seconds jeff appeared glasses-free in his split-screened clip. i also humbly apologize for my apparently hyperactive sense of vicariously-self-deprecating humor.
