Chinese Theme Park Builds Real Life Angry Birds Game — And It’s Illegal

Chinese Theme Park Builds Real Life Angry Birds Game — And It’s Illegal

Last week, a video surfaced online of a Chinese theme park showing off their new game: a real life Angry Birds where players can use a giant slingshot to throw stuffed birds at targets. Of course, it’s completely illegal and Rovio, the game company responsible for the insanely popular mobile game, had nothing to do with it.

South Korea Arrests North Korean Online Gaming Hackers

Well, this brings the whole gold farming business to a new level. This shit’s getting political. The New York Times is reporting that the North Korean government has employed an “army of hackers” to infiltrate popular online games to hoard points for cash: “In a little less than two years, the police said, the organizers made $6 million. They gave 55 percent of it to the hackers, who forwarded some of it to agents in [...] Continue »

VIRAL LIKE SARS: Korean StarCraft Stage Show

In the last weekend of July, the Major League Gaming had a competition in Anaheim where Korean Starcraft 2 competitor MVP, Jeong Jong Hyeon, pwned opponents and walked home with the trophy and $5K in prize money. Concurrently, one of the latest viral videos making rounds in geek gamer circles on the Internet is a Korean variety show with a little skit of live-action StarCraft. Though I don’t understand Korean, I laughed until I cried [...] Continue »

VIRAL LIKE SARS: Filipino Kid Twins Dance to Vampire Weekend

Meet Bay Area Filipino twins Justin and Jeremy playing Just Dance 2 on the Nintendo Wii. Justin is the one with the white Wii remote singing along, Jeremy is the one with the black Wii remote with the hip-shaking swagga. (Or it may be other way around. What? They’re twins.)

Street Fighter x Hello Kitty: A Kitty Fighter!

Street Fighter x Hello Kitty: A Kitty Fighter!

When I hear someone even mumble the words “Street Fighter,” my heart rate sky rockets and my eyes light up. I imagine pushing buttons, throwing projectiles and super combos upon some poor newbie. Capcom is very well known for collaborating with other well known companies, with games like Marvel vs Capcom, Street Fighter vs X-Men, Street Fighter x Tekken, and so forth. I love it these crossovers because it shows us, the gamers, for their [...] Continue »

Chinese Couple Sells Kids For Video Games

Chinese Couple Sells Kids For Video Games

According to ABC News Radio, a Chinese couple has been arrested for selling their two children for video games: “In 2009, Li Lin and Li Juan welcomed their second child, a baby girl, and came up with the idea to sell her for money to fund their online game obsession.  They did so, receiving RMB 3,000 (less than $500), which they spent entirely shortly after.  The couple then proceeded to sell their first child and [...] Continue »

ToyToyota’s Backseat Driver Allows Just That

This Backseat Driver app from ToyToyota is awesome. It’s an iPhone app that allows kids to drive on a virtual road in their virtual cars where the lanes are created by the car’s GPS. It’s easier just to watch the video than explain it. Just wait until they make a racing one for older kids.

Tekken Movie Review

Tekken has to be my favorite arcade game has to be  with its full-body motion sensor, even if I did get pwned big time by an 8-year-old kid back in the late 90s as a college student. I’m not a hardcore gamer, and I am not really into fighting games despite my love for martial arts, but out of all the fighting games, Tekken has definitely been my all time favorite. I finally got my [...] Continue »

The 8Asians Talk About: Drama in the Delta, the 3D Japanese Internment Camp Video Game

The 8Asians Talk About: Drama in the Delta, the 3D Japanese Internment Camp Video Game

Our internal e-mail lists have us discussing all kinds of stuff: Asian American identity, representation in the media, the experiences of activism in an academia setting and its progression as we transition to the working, adult world. And sometimes we talk about “Drama in the Delta,” a 3D video game about Japanese Internment Camps. Sometimes, that conversation starts out snarky but ends up being pretty thought provoking discussion about internment camp life, thanks to Koji. [...] Continue »

VIRAL LIKE SARS: Little Asian Kid Masters XBox Kinect’s Dance Central

When I was a kid, I lacked just enough social skills to get a copy of Typing Tutor and speed up my typing to 85 words per minute; my mom would take me to the mall and when we passed by the typewriter section (I know!) I would run up to a typewriter on demo mode and type in “the quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog” over and over again just to see [...] Continue »
