Porn Fridays: Jenny, Jenny… who can I turn to?

(Re-posted from my personal weblog site) I don’t know what to make of this. I literally sat there for the four-plus minutes with my mouth wide open; horrified but fascinated. It’s like watching my sister, or any one of my friend’s sisters, driving off a cliff. So many things about her hit a bit close to home: Chinese, latch key kid, from Long Island. The small little trinkets and decorations in her house look like [...] Continue »

Juno, y’know?

Juno, y’know?

People are pissed at Juno. Read about it here. Was I offended? No. You know what offends me? People in China throwing away their baby girls. Oh, but you can’t say that. So let me get this straight: we’re not going to condemn the people who discard their babies, just the movies that joke about it. Ask yourself this: is it happening?? Is the comment and statement based on FACTS? Yes. End of conversation. It [...] Continue »

Paging Dr. Miracles…

Here’s an internet comedy series from LA based comedian Randall Park (member of MTV’s Wild’n Out) called “Dr. Miracles” about a doctor with certain life saving abilities in his.. um… “DNA”, let us say. This series literally had me spitting up my food, water and blood (the ‘blood’ part not so much literal). From the lines to the intentionally low budget set design and costume/makeup, this show doesn’t seem to try to hide its warts [...] Continue »

‘Bringin’ Sexy (Beijing) Back’

I came across this ongoing series titled “Sexy Beijing” (credit goes to a commenter named “Craig” for bringing it to my attention). Apparently, it’s been around for over a year now and has slipped under our collective radars. Doh! In any event, here’s a real brief synopsis: It’s a Sex and the City-esque documentary style series starring an American white woman named Su Fei (whose fluent Mandarin Chinese blows mine out of the water). We [...] Continue »

Lust Another Day at the Movies

Being an obsessive (though novice) Asian cinephile and eating up anything stamped ‘Wong Kar Wai’ and ‘Ang Lee’, I’ve been dying to see Lust Caution for a while now. So going overseas on a two week trip to Beijing and Shanghai a few weeks ago, I figured it’d be the perfect opportunity. Meet my brethren! Eat brethren food! Talk brethren talk! Watch brethren movi– not so fast. As posted by John earlier, China only shows [...] Continue »

Grandma Master Flash

This is going ’round the interwebs already, but I figured what the hell? It’s a nice little Saturday post for you hung over folk partying late last night (or getting ready to go out today). Keep in mind: this woman is 71 years old!

Social Implications of DNA Testing: DN-nay? DN-yay!

The Sunday New York Times ran an article today about the social implications of gene and DNA testing. Will it lead to further support of racial inferiority? “Scientists, for instance, have recently identified small changes in DNA that account for the pale skin of Europeans, the tendency of Asians to sweat less and West Africans’ resistance to certain diseases.” Asians sweat less? Really? I honestly didn’t know that. I know we’re lactose intolerant, alcohol digestive [...] Continue »

King James to the Middle Kingdom came

King James to the Middle Kingdom came

National past times are going international. The NFL has a Dolphins/Giants game on today being played in London. The NBA is playing a few preseason (aka practice) games overseas. Of key interest is China. People paid upwards of $550 per ticket. To put it in perspective, that can buy you 551 bootleg dvds. ["King" Lebron James and Billy "the soldier"] $550 for a preseason game. Wow. It goes to show you the NBA’s popularity. And [...] Continue »
