Where Are The Asians In The Bachelor/The Bachelorette?

Where Are The Asians In The Bachelor/The Bachelorette?

Following the heels of Nathaniel Claybrooks and Christopher Johnson, two African American football players who filed an entertainment lawsuit against ABC, executive producer Mike Fleiss, and The Bachelor/The Bachelorette’s production companies, I demand there be some fine Asian brothers and sisters to be represented in the show. This comes at a hilarious time as the 8Asians team received an email from an affiliated show’s casting producer:

Asian American Commercial Watch: Target’s “Green Drink”

Asian American Commercial Watch: Target’s “Green Drink”

I caught this Target commercial a few minutes after the most recent Target mom & daughter commercial. Like I blogged before, I’m not a big fan of the 18-second format commercial. Target has done a GREAT job of highlighting Asian American mom’s & daughters, cute girls, families, dating couples, inter-racial couples (WM/AF), teachers, Single Asian Females, etc. in commercials but I don’t think they have had any commercials where an Asian American man has been [...] Continue »

Are The Writers Of HBO’s Girls Just Clueless?

Are The Writers Of HBO’s Girls Just Clueless?

After my last post on HBO’s Girls, I was still willing to still give the series a shot. Except now I’m realizing something even worse–these writers really have no clue why people are upset over the lack of minority representation in their New York based show. Amazing. Let me just say that I’m not surprised that a lot of people are drinking the haterade when it comes to this show. Anything that’s deemed hipster-ish with [...] Continue »

Asian American Commercial Watch: Target’s “Flowers”

Asian American Commercial Watch: Target’s “Flowers”

I just caught this Target commercial the other night. I find the little girl is quite adorable. I hope my niece remains just as cute as she grows up to this little girl’s age. The mom kind of reminds me a little of Sandra Oh. This mom & daughter Target is not my favorite one – the overprotective mom concerned about her daughter and her boyfriend is definitely the best! To be honest, I am [...] Continue »

HBO’s Girls Reminds Us That The Only Ones Who Matter Are White

HBO’s Girls Reminds Us That The Only Ones Who Matter Are White

There’s a lot of hype around Lena Dunham’s new HBO series, Girls. And I refuse to be a part of it. (Please note that due to my hypocritical nature, this means I’ll probably be drinking the Kool-Aid starting April 15th.) Why, you ask. But her indie film, Tiny Furniture, was critically acclaimed! And this will be such a realistic and hilarious and honest portrayal of young cosmopolitan women in the 21st century, unlike Sex and [...] Continue »

Nikki Haley On The Colbert Report: Can’t Is Not an Option, My American Story

The Colbert Report Mon – Thurs 11:30pm / 10:30c Nikki Haley www.colbertnation.com Colbert Report Full Episodes Political Humor & Satire Blog Video Archive I caught Stephen Colbert’s interview of South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley on The Colbert Report. This was the first time I’ve seen Haley interviewed in a non-news program or press briefing, and had very much the same reaction when I had seen Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal. First, it was a bit disarming [...] Continue »

Comedian Joe Wong’s Fourth Appearance on Letterman

Wow, David Letterman must really like Joe Wong. Wong made his fourth appearance on The Late Show last Friday night. I saw Joe perform last Fall when he was in San Francisco and he remembered me when we first met a few years ago (also in San Francisco). We chatted briefly and was impressed to learn that Joe quit his day job, and has been doing comedy full-time now. I think Joe’ best (and longest [...] Continue »

VIRAL LIKE SARS: Pendulum Anime Will Make You Sob

VIRAL LIKE SARS: Pendulum Anime Will Make You Sob

Make sure that tissue box is handy before you watch “Pendulum,” an anime by a Japanese comedian named Tekken. Yeah, Tekken. That’s not the point this post. The point of this post is to remind you that time is ticking, there’s no turning back and you better appreciate and treat all the people in your life well because sooner or later, you’re going to regret all of it. (This may or may not be a [...] Continue »

Asian American Commercial Watch: Chinese American Couple In Honda Really Big Sales Event TV

Asian American Commercial Watch: Chinese American Couple In Honda Really Big Sales Event TV

When I saw the beginning and middle of this Honda television commercial, I was wondering – why is Honda showing a Chinese American couple speaking Mandarin in an English language commercial? Odd that the U.S. subsidiary of a Japanese auto manufacturer would be pushing the “foreignness” of a Chinese American couple. But after seeing the ending, I thought the commercial was hilarious brilliant. I just love how the couple reacts after the salesman responds in [...] Continue »
